British people want to
know how people, animals and our planet are treated when food, drinks and
clothes are produced. The Fairtrade
Foundation is an organisation that helps farmers and workers in the poorer
parts of the world to earn enough money to live comfortably. Something that is
also mentioned in the text is free range farming which means that farm animals
spend more time outside rather than being inside 24 hours a day. Some experts
say that this type of farming is preferable because it is less cruel and
animals are healthier. Another topic included in the text from the British
Council is organic food. This kind of food is produced using few or no chemical
fertilizers and pesticides.
The last topic of the British
Council text is fashion which is a big global business. After the collapse of
the factory, people started wondering how their clothes were made and they were
worried about the process. Nowadays, old
clothes or the second-hand clothes are popular in UK. People buy them from
charity.
People are more aware
of who is making their clothes, how their food is produced and the conditions in
which workers and farmers live.
